This week we're heading to Carindale which has a number of clustered neighbourhoods linked by a network of parks, pathways and cycleways. Careful route planning will be crucial, and there is a possibility that the course will be cleared.

We'll be starting at Kidwelly St, opposite Urquart St. 

Please arrive by 6:45 to sign on and grab your map ready to turn maps over at 6:58. 

You may need to park in nearby street and walk to the starting location.

Please register below - BY MIDDAY WEDNESDAY - so that we can print enough colour maps.






Entry is Free! 

Timing:
Please arrive by 6:45pm
Map handout at 6:58pm
Turn over maps for two minutes of route planning at 6:58pm
Mass start at 7:00pm
Finish at 8:00pm - 20 point penalty for every minute you are late
8:00pm onwards - enter your answers into the online form that generates a live leaderboard

What to bring:
Marker Pen/highlighter
Headtorch
Compass (optional)
Whistle for safety (optional)

"Salome, dear, not in the fridge"

It's from an anthology of winning entries to competitions in The New Statesman, edited by Arthur Marshall, and cheered me up somewhat. Not that ENO's Salome would have needed to worry, because there wasn't much evidence of a severed head at all: just a placcy bag that for all we know might have contained a large cauliflower. One's cynical side considers it's probably cheaper than constructing a replica head of Jokanaan. I love good reinterpretations of operas. Like science fiction or magical realism (in which I've been learning a thing or two recently), they need to create consistent worlds, to make sense within those worlds and, if stretching disbelief, make us believe one big thing by getting the small things right. Seeing is Believing: Norman Perryman paints the music

Last night I was describing the musical work of the painter Norman Perryman to some artistic friends who were young in the 1960s. "That's rock'n'roll!" they declared. It is. And it's also going to rock Symphony Hall Birmingham next Saturday, when Perryman and his projectors join the CBSO and Mirga Gražynitė-Tyla to perform The Sea by the composer and artist Mikolajus  Či urlionis , Lithuania's most celebrated artistic figure, one whose music is hardly ever heard in the UK – though Mirga, herself Lithuanian, is about to change all that.  Či urlionis's  combination of musical and visual artistry makes him the perfect outlet for Perryman, who creates "kinetic painting" live in concert.  Video trailer for Saturday from the CBSO: As I have adored Norman's work for years, yet never before had the chance to see him in action in a top UK concert hall, I thought we should ask him for a guest blog.
